STYLE GUIDE FOR YOUR BOUDOIR PHOTOSHOOT! Wardrobe is the number one topic I get asked about all of the time. What to wear, how to choose outfits, or how to dress for a photoshoot… So if you have a couple of burning questions about your next photo session, let’s talk about boudoir photography and how to dress for it.
Planning how to dress for a photoshoot is one thing, and deciding what to wear for a boudoir session is something completely different. For many clients it’s their first time doing a boudoir photoshoot! If you have never done something before, how are you meant to know!? If you learn just one thing from this week’s blog – I want it to be VARIETY. Bring as many options to your photoshoot as will fit in your bag (styles, colors, accessories). Let’s look at 4 main categories to explore when choosing how to dress for boudoir photo shoot.
If you are going to run out and pick a few things, keep the tags on everything until we have our session. If you don't end up using it. You can always return it.
I recommend bringing at least 6 outfit changes. We will try and use at least 4.
4 BOUDOIR OUTFIT CATEGORIES TO CONSIDER
Two piece set
You can’t go wrong with a nice underwear set. You can have just your bra and undies on for photos, or pair it with ‘normal’ clothing. It’s a great way if you don’t want the photos to be too revealing. For example an over-sized unbuttoned white shirt, or a classy blazer on top of stunning undergarments always photograph well. I always recommend you bring at least one black panty.
One piece set are a must!
Think lingerie – bodysuits, vintage slip dresses, shape wear. One piece sets are perfect if your conscious of your body, they will help you shape your body the way you want. For the ultimate shaping – a corset is my favorite, it’s a classic, and a bonus point to adding variety of looks.
Think blazers, sheer tops, jeans, skirts, cardigans. You can also wear it without underwear at all, or on top of some gorgeous lingerie. If you are doing a boudoir photoshoot as a gift to your partner, then bring something from his wardrobe. It will make the images even more special and sexy for him if you’re wearing his shirt, a favorite tie or a football top.
Load up on your favorite accessories! Jewelry, stockings, garter belts, see-through mesh gowns, corsets, you name it! Also high heels to make your legs look even longer. Remember you’re not going to be walking in them so they don’t have to be super comfortable. You can get really creative with this! Mix and match your accessories, add layers, and shape your body.
GET YOUR MIND READY
If it’s your first time preparing for a professional photoshoot, you might feel awkward, scared, unsure, etc. It’s okay, we all feel this way before doing something for the first time.
At this point of your photoshoot preparation, you need to lift your spirits. Do anything to feel as good as you can about yourself on the day – read affirmations, listen to uplifting music and podcasts…
